Blue Bottle's retail position comes with a built-in premium: the brand prices above most specialty blends at its weight, and the honest question is whether Bella Donovan's cup earns it or the label carries the number. The cup is more coherent than most retail blends at this roast level.

The body is the first thing you notice. At 4/5, this is a full-weight cup that coats the palate and stays through the finish. The sweetness (4/5) sits underneath: molasses rather than bright sugar, softening the cocoa dryness in the mid-palate. Bitterness stays at a restrained 3/5 and recedes without leaving a dry, tannic residue. Valhalla Java has a sharper identity as a product; Bella Donovan is more versatile across brewing contexts.
