Coffee Roasters

157 roasters indexed 288 reviews

The roaster decides more about your cup than the origin printed on the bag. Two bags of the same Ethiopian bean roasted by different houses land in completely different places: one bright and tea-like, the other deep and chocolatey. This directory indexes every roaster we review so you can start from a brand you trust and move straight to its beans, scores, and best pick.

Each roaster has its own page: the beans we have reviewed, an average score across them, the price-per-ounce range, and the single highest-scored bean called out at the top. Use the featured band below for the brands we cover most, or jump to a letter to find a specific roaster by name.

Common questions

How does the roaster change the coffee?

Roast development sets flavor as much as the green bean does. A light roast protects fruit, citrus, and floral notes and a sharper acidity. A darker roast trades those for chocolate, caramel, and body, then for smoke and bitterness at the extreme. The same bean handled by two roasters can taste like two different coffees, which is why the brand on the bag is worth tracking.

What does each roaster page show?

Every roaster page aggregates that brand on one screen: all of its reviewed beans sorted by score, an average score across them, the price-per-ounce range, the dominant roast level, and the highest-scored bean featured at the top. Where a roaster has a known founding year and location, those sit under the name.

How do you choose which roasters to cover?

Coverage follows what people actually buy and search for: third-wave specialty roasters, direct-to-consumer brands, and the grocery-aisle names that move the most volume. A roaster earns a page once we have reviewed at least one of its coffees against the same scoring rubric used everywhere on the site.
